April TWP Meeting Report
On April 21st, we have hosted the second TWP meeting as scheduled. Though it was still chilly outside, 50 some people (largest number ever) of all walks of life have joined the gathering with many new faces among them. Freshmen of local universities and ex-pats working in Tokyo were sharing stories.
The main focus of the night was on HFH Japan's projects in Sri Lanka.
To support victims of the floods happened in last January through February, one of the two projects is to distribute Home Starter kits in the eastern province of Batticaloa. Another project implemented simultaneously is the post-conflict rehabilitation for the domestic refugees in Northern Province of Jaffna. HFH Japan has explained the background, needs and the organization's plans on both projects.
Secondly, HFH Japan reported on the first assessment trip to Tohoku.
The presentation included the distribution of donated supplies from EU and the needs assessment in and around Ofunato city, Iwate. The images from the disaster stricken areas seemed to shock some audience members but eventually led them to offer their time asking "when are you starting the volunteer recruitment?" and "how would the pilot team be operated?"
The next meeting is scheduled for middle of June.
