Donate for the Philippines!

Habitat for Humanity (HFH) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Philippine government's National Housing Authority and the City of Tacloban for a rebuilding project following Typhoon Haiyan. At this project site HFH will build 852 houses for families that lost their homes to the natural disaster that struck the Visayas region of the Philippines two months ago.

The latest Philippine government figures show that more than 1.1 million homes were either damaged or destroyed by the typhoon. According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Some 5.9 million workers were affected, with livelihoods and income sources destroyed, lost or disrupted. For those who lost homes, jobs and more, NGOs, international organizations and the Philippine government are working in response to various needs. The relief efforts must be followed by a long-term commitment for reconstruction.

HFH started distributing emergency shelter kits just days after Haiyan struck, shifting to shelter repair kits as needs changed, in the most devastated areas such as Guiuan, Samar, Daanbantayan, Cebu and Tacloban in Leyte. The shelter repair kit contains plywood, lumber, galvanized iron sheeting, hammer, handsaw and nails.

The 852 homes will be built at a 10-hectare resettlement site in the barangay (municipal ward) of Kawayan, provided by the City of Tacloban. HFH plans to build 29,000 more homes at the cost of approximately JPY300,000 each. To reach out to those in need, HFH Japan also continues to support them with you!
