【JPN Relief-29】 Miyagi : Distribution of 2,400 Hot Carpets

Donate to Help Japan Rebuild!
hotcarpetdistribution_20111223.jpgOn 22 and 23 December 2011, Habitat Japan has delivered total of 2,400 of electric hot carpets to affected families who live in damaged houses. Distribution took place at 3 local community centers in 3 different areas in the city of Higashimatsushima, Miyagi, with support from municipal government and local NGOs.

Affected people lead their lives in different way, some live in temporally shelters, while others live in rented apartments or damaged houses. Habitat Japan had discussed with municipal governments and local organization to understand the needs and decided to focus on those who live in damaged houses, where it is hard for people to reach relief items.

"Thank you so much! Finally from tonight I can sleep warm. I was not sure what government will do for us, and I am relieved now" said one of the recipients. Another recipient commented "It is disappointing that the families like us, who tried their best to be independent and decided not to move to temporary shelters, are not well concerned. We are also struggling and the fact that we did not choose to live in shelters does not mean that we are not in the needs for supports. It was first time that we have received anything like this. Thank you very much for not forgetting us."

Habitat Japan is continuously working with the affected families by providing help and supporting to their urgent needs.
