【JPN Relief-74】 Installed Solar Panels at Community Centers

Donate and Volunteer to Help Japan Rebuild!

 
tohoku_ofunato_Hilti1_20130819 (1).jpgHabitat Japan Solar Home Projects is ongoing in Ofunato, Iwate Prefecture. Installed the first solar panels in June, Habitat Japan supported total 13 vulnerable families who have a member with a disability. All installations to the 13 homes were completed in early August. The project shifted from homes to community centers to to revitalize the tsunami affected communities in Ofunato.


 
In late July, the first installation of the solar panels to Urahama Minami-ku Community Center. On July 28, Habitat Japan with the project partner, Hilti Group dedicated it to the locals. 20 representatives from the local community and also 18 Japan Hilti employees attended the dedication. Waichiryo Katayama, head of the community gave a speech, "We had lots of chances to encounter many people since the disaster because they came to Ofunato to support us. This is another great encounter. Thank you very much for your wonderful support."

 
tohoku_ofunato_Hilti1_20130819 (2).jpgJapan Hilti volunteers also worked to make benches and tables on the previous day of the dedication. Those will be used at the community center at events and gatherings. They also joined the locals to make a miniature town map. It is helpful in the discussion when the locals think about the community revitalization plan. Volunteers enjoyed working and talking with the locals and this teamwork revitalize communities in the tsunami-affected areas.
