【JPN Relief-32】 Miyagi : Volunteers are Back on Sites

Donate to Help Japan Rebuild!

Gutting_Feb11.jpgHabitat Japan restarted volunteer mobilization on February 11, 2012 at the end of the coldest season of the year. In 2012, Habitat Japan is targeting to initiate more programs in Miyagi with volunteers and for better operation, volunteer base in Tagajo, where is close to the city of Hagashimatsushima and Ishinomaki has opened in January. This base will also be an accommodation for volunteers.

Last fall, evacuation centers have been closed and many people had to move to temporary shelters. Currently lots of people are trying to find a way to move back to their own houses and working on repairing and rebuilding their houses step by step. On February 11, 4 volunteers and staff have worked at a house in Watanoha, Ishinomak. The homeowner plans to move back in, and they helped removing damaged boards on floors and walls. After Habitat Japan cleared the house, professional carpenters will finish the reconstruction work. The homeowner Habitat Japan has worked with commented with a smile, "I never thought I can come back home. I am so pleased now."

In addition to house repair, Habitat Japan also holds small gatherings over tea and snacks for these community to offer opportunities to get to know each other and share ideas to rebuild their community.

Habitat Japan is continuously working with the affected families by providing help and supporting to their urgent needs.
